BERGVIEW PRIMARY COMMUNITY PROJECT

2006
The Drakensberg Staff Show contributed a total of
R4900.
The Golf Day generated R7100.00 for the project.
We were able to provide the school with a monthly
visit with biscuits and sweets for the children.
40 outside mats were made by Drak Staff from wood
bags and old linen and the children use these during
their breaks to sit on.
We provided a Xmas Party (see website for story) and
the children came to Resort and assisted in cleaning
up the river with Akion and Rob and thereafter “Father
Christmas” came and gave each child a gift (stationery
for school) and an RCI bag. They then enjoyed a hearty
lunch..
Tropicana old conference carpet was cut up by Laurie
Kaplan and donated to the school,.
Donation of cupboards and chairs for the teachers
was also made.
2007
The blue gum tree next to the school. which should
have been removed 6 years ago,was causing a crack
to develop on the back of the building and we paid
to have this felled and taken down. (We used off cuts
to make little “stools” to sit on under
the trees!)
We have purchased exercise books and additional stationery
for this year.
We have the service of a “voluntary” teacher
who is taking the children for English, Maths and
Science. (Hilda Herman – moved to the valley
a year ago)
February
We have provided shelving for the classrooms and filing
“crates”.
Cable for the electricity has FINALLY been installed
and connected.
Project Build is half way through the project of building
of the toilets.
An
Appeal for support: Bergview Primary School Community
The 48 learners of
Bergview Primary School attend school in two inadequate
classrooms with no facilities, or toilets.
GOODERSON LEISURE CORPORATION ‘s property,Drakensberg
Gardens Golf & Leisure Resort, less than 1 kilometer
from Bergview Primary School, has come to the plea
of Bergview Primary School. This school is a community
initiative to give the 48 children an equal opportunity
to access education.
GOODERSON LEISURE
CORPORATION have pledged R 98 000.00 to PROJECT BUILD
towards the R 290 565.00 needed to build two inter
- leading classrooms (also used as a school/COMMUNITY
hall facility), a kitchen, 4 x toilets and to establish
a playground area and a food garden for Bergview Primary
School. The facilities will add value to the lives
of these children who come from impoverished communities
with a high level of illiteracy, AIDS orphans, poverty
and socio economic challenges. Often the only meal
the children get is that they receive at school. The
hall will also be used after hours for community training
and development programmes such as ABET, beadwork,
basket weaving and other life skills projects.
The PROJECT BUILD
formally The Natal Schools Project Trust was established
in 1985 as an offshoot of the Urban Foundation’s
school building division, which was started in 1977.
PROJECT BUILD is an independent not - for - profit
Trust with the objective of building the maximum number
of good quality, attractive and cost effective classrooms
as possible. The aim of the trust is to improve the
pupil classroom ratio and to create better conditions
for teaching staff, which in turn improves the quality
of life in the school community
In order to achieve
it’s aims and objectives PROJECT BUILD brings
together communities, funders and local builders to
form a team that will deliver quality products that
are acceptable to the communities, at competitive
prices, in as short time as possible to fill the void
in adequate classrooms facilities for communities
across Kwa Zulu Natal whilst contributing to the local
economy and creating employment.

to GOODERSON LEISURE CORPORATION we are appealing
to you to open your hearts and join US in giving the
